Designed and developed a clean, informative web presence for Kenton Foodbank in Newcastle, ensuring accessibility, clear service information, and support for community engagement.

Kenton Foodbank, established in February 2020, rapidly responded to growing community need during the early pandemic—distributing up to 500 food parcels monthly, including halal, vegetarian, baby, and pet foods, no referral required. As demand surged, a reliable web platform became essential to communicate services, opening hours, requirements, and to build trust among supporters and beneficiaries.

Challenges

  • Lack of an official website made access to key information limited.
  • Existing resources were scattered and handled via third-party listings, leading to inconsistencies.
  • The food bank needed a polished online presence to improve credibility and streamline communication of vital information.

What I Did

  • Strategy & Goals: Defined the core purpose of the site—to inform on services, opening hours, eligibility criteria, and to call for donations while building trust in the community.
  • Design & Structure: Crafted a clean, trust-oriented layout with clear service details:
    • Emergency food parcels for singles, couples, and families (7-day supply)
    • Pricing: £3 (single), £4 (couple), £5 (family)
    • Required ID and proof of benefits
    • Operating hours: Mon–Fri, 10 am–1 pm
    • Location and contact details (177 Kirkwood Drive, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 3BE; phone numbers and email)
  • Content Authority: Embedded community narrative—the food bank supports more than 100 families per week and relies on local business support to stay operational
  • Functionality: Implemented responsive layout, donation links, clear content sections like About, Services, How to Help, Contact, and Updates.
